Some background to the stone used in our unique products.

An area of the north-west of Western Australia is known as the Pilbara Craton where rocks of 3,500 million years have been dated and scientifically evaluated for the first signs of life on Earth.

During this period palaeomagnetic evidence indicates the Pilbara Block has drifted a distance of approximately 100,000 kilometers at a crustal drift rate of 3 – 4 centimeters a year.

Archaean Gems unique products are carved from plutonic magnesium rich rocks that have been subjected to extreme heat, pressure, displacement and hydrothermally altered to pods and lenses of 3,000 million year old ornamental stone such as Jade, Jasper, Serpentine and Soapstone.

Carvings are unique in that no two pieces are identical. Subjects include dolphins, turtles, frogs and Buddhas. Every effort is made by the carvers prior to commencement of the carving process to assess the material and produce a piece in harmony with texture and colour of the stone.
